Clarinet soloist, Patricia Cunningham
Clarinetist Patricia Cunningham performs the Weber Concertino with the New Hampshire Philharmonic at its spring concert.
Patricia Cunningham serves as the principal clarinetist of the New Hampshire Philharmonic Orchestra, a position she has held since 1985. She is the longest tenured member of the New Hampshire Philharmonic Orchestra. As a soloist, Cunningham was featured with the Philharmonic in 1992, as well as several performances with ensembles in Iowa. Cunningham holds music degrees from Boston University and the University of Northern Iowa. Principal clarinet teachers were Ethan Sloane, Jack Graham and Steve Colton. Additional graduate work has been completed at the University of New Hampshire, Plymouth State University, Central Connecticut State University, University of Hartford, University of Massachusetts, University of Iowa and the University of Miami. She has also performed with the Great Waters Festival Orchestra, New England Symphony Orchestra, Nashua Symphony Orchestra, Granite State Orchestra, and the New England Wind Symphony. Additionally, she performs with the New Hampshire Philharmonic Chamber Players.
As an educator, Cunningham directs the High School Concert, Marching and Jazz Bands for the Merrimack School District. These ensembles have received many top ratings at festivals over the years. In 2011, she was honored as Merrimack High School’s “Teacher of the Year.” Former students have also recognized Cunningham several times in “Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers.” She is also active as an adjudicator and clinician. In 2010, she presented “ Hands on Clarinet” at the New England Band Directors’ Institute.
