Janet Travis

Janet Travis has been the principal trumpet of the New Hampshire Philharmonic since 2012. She holds a BS degree from the State University of New York at Stony Brook, with a double major in Music and Computer Science, where she studied trumpet with Ronald Anderson. Janet is a member of North Star Brass and the Nevers’ 2nd Regiment Band. She has an interest in historical brass instruments and is a member of the Yankee Brass and the New Hampshire 12th Regiment Serenade Band, which perform 19th century music on authentic brass instruments.


Before relocating to New Hampshire, Janet was the principal trumpet of the Massapequa Philharmonic and the West Islip Chamber Orchestra, a member of the Island Chamber Symphony, and a long-time member of the Cross Island Brass. As a freelance musician, some of the groups she has performed with include the Merrimack Philharmonic Orchestra, the Carter Mountain Brass Band, the Monadnock Chorus Orchestra, the Clearlakes Chorale, the Ninth State Dance Theatre Orchestra, the Atlantic Wind Symphony and the Nassau Symphony.


Janet also holds a MS degree from Polytechnic University, and a MAOM degree from the New England School of Acupuncture. When not performing music, she is a software developer for BAE Systems, and maintains an acupuncture practice in Londonderry, New Hampshire.
